I have spent a great amount of time in Africa over the last 5 years, discovering all of the landmarks, the exciting countries and the awesome experiences which can be found throughout this impressive continent. Whilst I may not have seen everything in Africa, far from it in fact, I have had some absolutely wonderful experiences which I wanted to share with you, to hopefully inspire you to head to an African country for your next visit. If you aren’t sure whether or not there is an experience which will suit you, here are my top 4 and why I loved them so much.
Over half of the world’s population of mountain gorillas call the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda their home, and you could find yourself on a tour to get up close and personal with these magnificent beasts. A gorilla safari in Uganda is an experience like no other, and you will have the chance to get within feet of the gorillas, on a tour which is done with respect for the conservation of the local environment, and conducted by highly knowledgeable guides.
Kilimanjaro is referred to as the ‘Roof of Africa’ as it is the tallest mountain there, and for a great experience you can climb to the top. You don’t need any technical experience to get to the top of the mountain, just good condition and time on your hands. The climb can take anywhere from 9 to 16 days and the biggest challenge is the altitude changes, the reward at the top of the mountain however, is well worth the slog!
If you want to witness one of nature’s most spectacular offerings then you need to head to Victoria Falls, the largest waterfall in the world. These falls are not the highest in the world, nor the largest by volume, but the overall width of the falls is what make them such an incredible sight to behold. The falls can be found on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, on the Zambezi river, and they are absolutely worth visiting.
The Great Wildebeest Migration
The great wildebeest migration is the movement of over 1 million wildebeest and around 60,000 zebra, who move in a huge loop across the African planes in search of fresh water. This is not only one of the biggest migrations that takes place in the animal kingdom, it is also a truly phenomenal spectacle which you can see in various locations. The animals move between the same places at the same time of the year, so depending on when you visit they will be in a particular location. The migration takes place throughout Kenya and Tanzania, with the Masai Mara offering the best chance to gaze upon this impressive natural phenomenon.
Africa really does have so much in store for you, whichever country or experience you happen to decide upon, so don’t wait any longer, make that reservation today!
